The Climate Action Planning Committee (CAPC_ gave an update to the Select Board as to the current whereabouts of their committee. Chair of the committee Alex Hasha provided the Board a brief presentation of the most pressing issues facing the town in terms of climate change.

“Thank you for the opportunity to share the progress with you tonight of what we’ve been working on since we last reported in September and to get your feedback and support for our work,” said Hasha. “Since the Climate Action Planning Committee may be new to some of you, I wanted to start with a brief review of our mission and our charge from the Select Board.”

Hasha explained that the mission given to the committee is to engage with the community on how to mitigate the impacts of climate change, and the charge is to come up with a climate action plan to be considered by town meeting that would address various strategies for reducing communitywide greenhouse gas emissions set by Massachusetts law.

Back in 2021 Massachusetts passed a climate law that commits the state to achieving net zero emission of climate warming pollution by 2050, according to Hasha.
