Dayton-based health care company warning of data breach

DAYTON, Ohio — Dayton-based Premier Health is warning customers of a data breach that occurred in 2023.

Premier Health explained it became aware of suspicious activity around July 2023 and launched an investigation. They found that certain systems were accessed by an unauthorized party between June 7, 2023, and July 12, 2023. 

While the company said there’s no evidence that indicates private information was used or was attempted to be used from this incident, it said the affected information varies depending on the individual. This includes the possibility of names, dates of birth, social security numbers, driver’s license numbers, taxpayer ID numbers, digital signatures, login credentials, financial account information, medical information and health insurance information being revealed.

Premier Health said it’s sending letters to impacted customers if the address information is available. The company is offering complimentary credit monitoring services and other resources to help people protect their information.

“We take the confidentiality, privacy and security of our records seriously,” Premier Health wrote in a statement. “Upon learning of this event, we moved quickly to investigate, assess the security of our systems, and notify potentially affected individuals. All Premier Health services are fully operational and there has not been and will not be any interruption in service. We also promptly notified law enforcement. As part of our ongoing commitment to information security, we are reviewing our policies and procedures to reduce the likelihood of similar future events.”

Premier Health is urging customers to keep an eye out for indications of identity theft and fraud by reviewing account statements and monitoring their credit.
