Dutch electronics company Fairphone today announced their Fairphone Gen 6 smartphone as the successor to the Fairphone 5. Fairphone 6 continues to be repair-friendly and was just announced this morning while already the Linux support patches have hit the Linux kernel mailing list.

The Fairphone 6 was formally announced today for €599 (~$695 USD) as a modular, repair-friendly smartphone with a five-year warranty, improved durability, and other improvements over earlier Fairphone generations.

The Fairphone 6 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, 8GB of RAM, 512GB of internal storage (expandable to 2TB via microSD), 6.3-inch OLED 120Hz display, 4415 mAh battery, 50MP main camera, and jiving with the Fairphone ethos built over the years.

Fairphone 6 modularity

Excitingly the mainline Linux kernel support focus remains on point and out today are the initial DeviceTree patches for enabling the Fairphone 6. This 14 patch series straight from Fairphone works on SM7635 SoC additions followed by introducing the DTS for the newly-announced Fairphone 6. Hopefully those patches will be readied for the mainline kernel soon.
