Reachy Mini Open-Source AI Robot
Hugging Face has unveiled Reachy Mini, a desktop robot that feels like a bold step toward making robotics accessible to everyone. This open-source marvel is designed for AI developers, educators, hobbyists, and even curious kids.

Reachy Mini stands 11 inches tall and weighs a featherlight 3.3 pounds. Its design is Pixar-like, with two wiggly antennas, expressive screen-based eyes, and a motorized head that twists and turns with six degrees of freedom. The body spins a full 360, and with a wide-angle camera, a 5W speaker, and up to four mics (two in the Lite version), it’s ready for lively chats with humans. “We’re all about soaking up feedback from users and the community,” says Hugging Face CEO Clem Delangue.

Reachy Mini Open-Source AI Robot
The Reachy Mini comes as a build-it-yourself kit, tapping into the DIY vibe of open-source culture. Putting it together is half the fun, giving you a hands-on crash course in robotics without needing a fancy degree. Once it’s built, you can program it with Python, with JavaScript and Scratch support coming soon, so coders of all levels can jump in. The Wireless version, powered by a Raspberry Pi 5 and a built-in battery, roams free, while the Lite version stays tethered to a Mac or Linux machine. Both hook up smoothly to Hugging Face’s Hub, packed with over 1.7 million AI models and 400,000 datasets, letting you play with a ton of ready-to-go behaviors and tools.

Reachy Mini Open-Source AI Robot
Hugging Face’s acquisition of Pollen Robotics in April 2025 set the stage for Reachy Mini, blending their AI smarts with Pollen’s hardware know-how. This robot takes cues from Pollen’s pricier Reachy 2, a $70,000 humanoid used by top labs like Cornell and Carnegie Mellon, but shrinks the tech into something way more wallet-friendly without skimping on cool features. “Anyone can whip up their own features and apps for Reachy Mini and share them with the community,” Delangue says.

Right out of the box, it’s loaded with over 15 fun demos, from goofy gestures to voice-triggered responses, all available on the Hugging Face Hub. These ready-to-roll tricks let you dive in fast, whether you’re testing AI vision models or coding your own quirky interactions. Being open-source, every bit of code and 3D-printed part is yours to modify. There’s even a simulation SDK to mess around in a virtual world before your robot shows up, perfect for developers itching to get started.

Price is where Reachy Mini really shines. At $299, the Lite version is cheaper than some Raspberry Pi setups, and the $449 Wireless model adds freedom without busting your budget. It’s all part of Hugging Face’s mission to make robotics open to everyone, backed by their LeRobot platform, launched in 2024 to share open-source robotics tools.

Shipping’s just around the corner, with the Lite version hitting doorsteps next month and the Wireless model landing later in 2025. Hugging Face is keeping things speedy, skipping long pre-order waits to get these robots into your hands ASAP.
