Florida State University’s College of Social Sciences and Public Policy (COSSPP) now offers a graduate certificate in Public Health Epidemiology to address the health of populations and how to prevent disease through the study of health-related events.

Graduates will gain the knowledge and tools to analyze health outcomes and trends, assess epidemiologic public health data and program impact and utilize public health surveillance.

“The FSU Public Health Program is proud to offer a graduate-level certification in epidemiology,” said Director of the Public Health Program and Teaching Professor Alan Rowan. “This certificate program emphasizes the core concepts, methodologies and practical applications of epidemiology to understand and safeguard the health of populations and prevent diseases.”

The 12-credit graduate certificate includes four core courses: Public Health Epidemiology, Chronic Disease Epidemiology, Infectious Disease Epidemiology and Social Epidemiology.

“Upon completion, students will have developed a comprehensive skill set and gained extensive knowledge in the study of health-related events,” Rowan said. “This certificate provides valuable training in population health for clinicians and public health professionals.”

The certificate is open to degree-seeking and non-degree-seeking students. The application for fall 2025 will open the second week of classes and close on Nov. 14, 2025. Students interested in the certificate must submit their application before completing the sixth credit hour of the program.

All coursework must be finished within seven years from the time of initial enrollment, and students must obtain a 3.0 overall grade point average to be awarded the certificate.
