‘Google Gemini on Wear OS’ rolling out via the Play Store

Following the announcement on Wednesday, Gemini is rolling out to Wear OS via a Play Store update, with the Google Assistant replacement already live for some users.

As expected, the existing “Assistant” app is being updated to “Google Gemini on Wear OS.” The updated Play Store listing with app icon, screenshots, and description went live on Wednesday afternoon for all users.

The current stable version of the app released in June is 1.21.49.763997078.

Google yesterday started rolling out an updated 1.21.x build that’s only a few kBs in size and is still Google Assistant.

Meanwhile, some users are receiving version 1.22.5.780344288 that enables Gemini. The rollout is limited as of today. With this update, these people have access to the updated experience. Full availability is expected in the coming weeks for Wear OS 4+ devices: Pixel Watch, Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

This version features the four-color logo, with the current Play Store screenshots amusingly showing the pointy blue-purple version. You get updated complications and a Tile that still lets you save and start “actions.” Additionally, compared to marketing screenshots, the actual UI says “Ask Gemini” instead of “Ask Google Gemini.”

Google released a Pixel Watch support article that notes how, like Google Assistant, you can:

  • Control your exercise: Start, pause, resume, or end an activity. For example, say “start my run.”
  • Get your live health metrics: Ask “What’s my heart rate?” or “What’s my step count?” to check your current stats in the Fitbit Today app.

For the Pixel Watch, Google treats Gemini for Wear OS as part of a July 2025 Pixel Drop. It joins the Circle to Search updates, as well as “Veo 3 on Pixel.” It’s a mini Feature Drop without an OS update. This also happened with Gemini Live camera mode in April.
