As the value of sports teams increase, the worth of sports ownership groups also is on the rise.

And, no sports empire has soared higher than that of Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke.

CNBC’s latest report on the most valuable sports ownership groups ranked Kroenke Sports & Entertainment first on the list with a value of $21.17 billion. Kroenke’s team portfolio includes the NFL’s LA Rams, NBA’s Denver Nuggets, NHL’s Colorado Avalanche and the English Premier League’s Arsenal.

He owns SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, where the Rams and also the LA Chargers play their home games.

In April, plans were announced by the Kroenke Organization for a multi-purpose development in the west San Fernando Valley that includes the Rams headquarters and training center alongside a residential and retail project.

Kroenke managed to triumph over the Jones Family who were valued at second with $15.53 billion including ownership of the NFL's most valuable franchise the Dallas Cowboys.

Farther down the list placed Philip Anschutz’s ownership group AEG Worldwide with a value of $11.99 billion. His portfolio includes the NHL’s LA Kings, MLS’s LA Galaxy, Crypto.com Arena, T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and the O2 in London.

More sports empires will soon be contesting the list after the Buss family agreed to sell a majority stake of the LA Lakers to businessman Mark Walter in June. This will be Walter’s third LA team in his ownership group after the MLB team LA Dodgers and LA Sparks of the WNBA.

Walter is the CEO of the Guggenheim Partners, a global investment firm which through it agreed to buy a controlling interest in the 17-time NBA champions for $10 billion. His assets also include Chelsea FC of the English Premier League and Cadillac’s prospective Formula 1 racing team.

Sports empires are typically assessed and valued in their portfolio of teams purchased, the other businesses they own and how impactful the team’s location is.
