Linn Co. Public Health sends Mobile Clinic across Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - The Linn County Public Health Department is hitting the road, using its new mobile clinic to reach people in need.

There are several stops planned though the department’s first summer tour. The clinic not only offers a quick check up for visitors, but also provides people with preventative services like vaccines.

The first stop was Friday at the Willis Dady Shelter. Shelter officials say there’s been an increase in residents who are suffering from severe health conditions. Along with that, people experiencing homelessness can also struggle to make the time or afford to go to the doctor.

“A lot of your time and energy is just focused on the day-to-day survival, trying to figure out where you’re going to sleep today,” Denine Rushing with the shelter said. “So health may be something that doesn’t get addressed during that time.”

While the the tour’s current stops are throughout Cedar Rapids, there are plans to expand.

“Linn County Public Health is located in Cedar Rapids, but we serve all of Linn County,” Mollie Swayne, the communications director for the department, said. “We definitely are looking to do more stops, looking to serve the entire county.”

There are five stops remaining for the rest of the summer. They can be viewed by clicking here.
