NATCHITOCHES, La. (KSLA) - “It’s time for induction weekend at the 2025 Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame,” says Doug Ireland, Chairman for the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.
Lights. Camera. Action. The stars are out. This year, 12 new inductees get the call to the Louisiana Sports Hall.
“All of the stars aligned, and they are out here,” says Vickie Johnson, Louisiana Tech and WNBA legend. “From the walks of women’s basketball, men’s basketball. The coaches.”
Speaking of coaches, one of the country’s best in baseball, Joe Scheuerman, praised the country’s best from this year."
“Unreal. I saw KSLA. I want to congratulate Coach [Brad Neffendorf]. That’s an unbelievable accomplishment. I don’t care who you’re playing, what level you’re playing 59-0, is that correct? That’s pretty strong. I don’t think I could be an intrasquad winner at 59-0. Kudos to him and congratulations to the Pilots,” says Scheuerman.
From one set of purple and gold to someone who ran LSU’s athletic department for years.
“Well it’s very special,” says Herb Vincent, SEC Associate Commissioner and former LSU Sports Information Director. “I’m still trying to figure out why I’m here. I look around and see the folks in the Hall of Fame, it’s a bit overwhelming. Only reason why I’m here is because I’m the winner of the Dave Nixon award. Once I won that, I looked back at the list of people, that again, trying to figure out how I fit in. I’m flattered. I’m humbled. Really excited about the weekend.”
A former Tiger gymnastics star is also a member of this year’s class.
“It’s amazing,” says April Burkholder, former LSU gymnastics star. “It’s a huge honor. All of the greats that have been inducted, it’s nice to be on that wall with them. It’s exactly 10 years from when I was inducted into LSU Hall of Fame. It’s even more special this time to me personally, because my husband and my 14-month old are able to be a part of it.”
Glenn Gilbeau, who covered Louisiana’s biggest moments in sports, is in.
“When you cover LSU, you get to cover a lot of great coaches and a lot of great teams,” says Gilbeau. “Louisiana is such a sports state. I got to cover the Saints a lot, in the Super Bowl. It would be hard not to write some good stuff.”
