BETTENDORF, Iowa (KWQC) - The pedestrian bridge planned near TBK Sports Complex is over budget.

City officials said the $11.7 million project is $870,000 over budget.

“The council is faced with a dilemma,” city administrator Decker Ploehn said. “We’re obligated to build a bridge.“

Ploehn said the city plans to move money earmarked for highway work on the north side of the city and use it for the bridge.

He said city leaders believe trying to find the money in other places and building the bridge, to decrease safety concerns, is the right thing to do.

The bridge will not lose any of its design features because of the cuts, Ploehn said.
