BENTONVILLE, Ark. — Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon has announced that two new executive leadership roles related to artificial intelligence have been created in an effort to improve innovation at the company.

McMillon said the roles will fulfill the goal of "accelerating innovation across Walmart — moving smarter and faster, putting AI and world class product management and design at the center of everything we do."

Daniel Danker, most recently the Chief Product Officer at Instacart, was announced as Executive Vice President of AI Acceleration, Product, and Design.

The job is described as a global role that will accelerate AI transformation and lead product management and design across the company.

Danker said he's used technology to improve people's lives throughout his career, and that few companies have "embraced change and technology as boldly" as Walmart.

The second role is Executive Vice President of AI Platforms. While McMillon didn't say who, if anyone, had been selected for that position, he did confirm they'll report to Suresh Kumar, the company's Global Chief Technology Officer and Chief Development Officer.

Described by McMillon as a "visionary" role, EVP of AI Platforms will "build the future with AI, increase productivity, speed and innovation, own the AI platforms, and architect our intelligent systems stack to power our future."

The CEO said there's a window of opportunity right now for Walmart to apply AI and further incorporate technology.

"Artificial intelligence is changing how we work," McMillon said. "I look forward to working with Daniel and seeing how these changes strengthen our business and improve experiences for our customers, members and fellow associates."
