White House Releases AI Plan that includes several CCIA-identified goals for AI competitiveness

1 day ago 3

Washington –  The White House has released its “AI Action Plan,” aimed at boosting artificial intelligence innovation in the U.S. and exports abroad. The plan directs the federal government to limit overly restrictive AI regulations at the state and federal level, encourages development and deployment of frontier technologies, and directs necessary resources towards encouraging technological innovations.

In March, the Computer & Communications Industry Association filed comments to federal agencies NIST and OSTP noting that how the federal government handles AI policy will be crucial to maintaining the U.S.’s leading position in AI technology.

The following can be attributed to CCIA Senior Counsel for Innovation Policy, Josh Landau:

“When it comes to AI technology that will become an ordinary part of the process for innovation and creation, it is crucial that U.S. companies are able to compete – not just to fulfill economic goals, but to safeguard interests like privacy, national security, and promote democratic values. Importantly, the AI Action Plan includes elements that instruct the government to remove barriers to AI infrastructure in the U.S. and the export of American AI, notes that open-source models have an important role to play, and tasks agencies with creating frameworks for improved AI security.”
