Triangle bowling league for special needs community brings joy to many

"You can't help but leave here feeling good."

CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Endless Sports bowling league is in full swing at Bowlero in Cary.

The Triangle non-profit's mission is to provide a fun & safe environment for members of the special needs community to experience the joy of athletic activity.

"We started like, four years ago. We started with lacrosse because my boys played lacrosse, and it's just grown. I mean, we've obviously identified a need. So, we started as Lacrosse, now we have bowling, we offer E-Sports, and this year we've tried golf for the first time, and it's been amazing," said Scott Stein, the Director of Endless Sports.

The Endless Sports bowling league meets on Saturdays through August 9. All ages and abilities are welcome to participate, socialize, and enjoy the sport of bowling.

"There's really no expectations, which is what makes it great. It's just about having fun, no more than that. It's as simple as I tell our volunteer coaches: 'We have two goals, for our players to have fun, and for them to want to come back next week,'" Stein said.

Dozens of bowlers take part each week, and it not only brings joy to the bowlers and their families but also to the volunteers.

"I think it's the most gratifying thing. You can't help but leave here feeling good. Sometimes my face hurts from smiling so much. It's amazing on many fronts," Stien said. "We're helping players, we're helping their families to come here and get a couple of hours off and to get to talk to other parents and caregivers. A big component of what we do involves volunteers. I just think they're amazing. We have a lot of teenage volunteers who give up their Saturday mornings, and I feel like we're teaching empathy and compassion and patience."

After the bowling league ends, the lacrosse league will begin in September.
