Tallahassee fitness trainer shares how kickboxing can improve mental health

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - In this Mindful Moment segment, we stepped into 9Round, a kickboxing gym helping people fight stress one punch at a time.

Taylor Roselong, a Tallahassee nurse, said the emotional toll of her job, combined with a lifelong battle with depression, makes managing her mental health a daily effort.

“Between critically ill patients or just patients who aren’t the nicest to you, it’s nice to come here and beat it out,” Roselong said.

She said a 30-minute session at 9Round leaves her with a smile, thanks to the physical and emotional release.

9Round owner Eric Friall said that’s exactly the goal.

“You actually make contact. You hit something. You kick something. It makes you feel different,” Friall said. “You walk out of here with a new release.”

From endorphin boosts to mental clarity, kickboxing may be more than just a workout, can be a powerful tool for mental wellness.

The owner said the first kickboxing class is free. To sign up for a free class, click here.
